In my third entry, I will write about something dear to me, which is my cats. I want to share the experience of how I met my first pet. I personally think that my experience is close related to SDG number 15, Life on Land.
That day, my family and I decided to have a pet. We decided to buy kittens from the pet shop. We knew that we needed to provide the best hospitality to the cats as they are also a living creature. Definitely the cats need necessities such as food and a cage, but the most important thing is that cats need freedom too. My parents have made sure that there is space for our cats to play. We knew that taking care of kittens is a hassle. It was like we were having a new baby in our house. Nutritious food is also vital in order to ensure my kitten's normal growth. From the financial perspective, obviously we need to spend a lot of money to ensure our kitten is healthy and getting enough nutrients and love.
The day has come, my mother and I went to the nearest pet shop to make our dreams come true. We were planning to buy some British shorthair kittens as they are very cute. As we were walking towards the shop, we saw a cat with its kittens. Looking so cute and pitiful simultaneously. They were left in a box without any food and drinks. My heart broke into pieces to acknowledge that situation. To add, the cute cats never fail to capture my heart. My mother and I looked at each other and decided to take these stray cats home. We did not manage to buy the specific breed of our desired cats as we already brought these stray cats home. Actually, it does not feel so different to have our local breed. They were cute and had the same behaviour as the other breed of cats.
Day by day, my heart is falling deeper to my cats. Spending time with my cats boosts up my serotonin
level which makes me so happy to live with them. Cleaning the cage and providing food to the cats
everyday is not a burdening work anymore as the cats play an essential role in maintaining my stable
mental health and well-being. My family members take turns everyday to do the cleaning work so that everyone will not be so tired managing the cats.
Overall, I felt so grateful to have my cats with me. I am grateful to meet with them and I have never regretted my decision to take them home. I could not imagine what would happen to my cats if I left them living by the roadside. Taking care of cats has instilled loving and responsible value in my life as I need to take care of them like they are my real children. There are a lot of stray cats in Malaysia and this is a serious problem as the number of stray cats are increasing day by day. Cats have no safe place to live and sufficient food to eat. They barely could not survive their day without being taken care of. Almost every week, I can see cases of swift cars hitting the cats. It is so heartbreaking to see that.
Personally, I think the government or any organization should take a firm action to solve this problem. We do not want to see any stray cats with bad diseases and skinny cats anymore in Malaysia. Not to mention about some irresponsible person who did bad things to innocent cats. The suspect is inhumane and cruel to do such a thing to a living creature. Life on land has to be preserved and taken care of as they are precious living creatures.
